"Nimis" is a sculpture made by driftwood located a few kilometres from the beautiful little village of Arild in southern Sweden. The story is long- but the short version is as follows... The artist Lars Vilks decided to make a sculpture called Nimis (Latin, it means "too much"- see the
Wikipedia link above). It is made by driftwood in a location hard to reach. It was not noticed for two years (construction started in 1980). The problem was that it is a nature reserve- the local council consequently ordered it to be removed. Lars Vilks appealed and eventually declared it his own state: Ladonia! Clearly, the court case continued- but eventually, the artist was allowed to build a sculpture on the location and Nimis has become possibly the most important tourist attraction in the area near Arild...
